Outlook add-in single sign-on failing

I've been following the Microsoft guide for implementing SSO in an Outlook add-in. It worked as expected during development but when promoted to a production domain I'm getting an error dialog when requesting getAccessTokenAsync():

enter image description here

The (React) code is fairly simple and based on the Microsoft sample:

Office.context.auth.getAccessTokenAsync((result: Office.AsyncResult<string>) => {
    if (result.status === Office.AsyncResultStatus.Succeeded) {
        this.setState({ ssoToken : result.value }, async () => await this.setTokensInBff());
    } else {
        this.handleClientSideErrors(result);
    }
});

Not sure what I might be doing incorrectly? I've tried with both the beta and the latest incremental release of the office.js lib - both give the same result.
