Hosting my website locally in my country

I have an ecommerce website,

According to my website's homepage loading speed is 7seconds.

I am hosting my website in a digital ocean droplet based in Us and 99% of my users are based in Tanzania,

I know about RTT (Round trip time) when consuming resources over the internet,

Keeping aside website optimization tips like minifying css&js files, compressing images, using browser cache , etc,

If decide to host my website locally with a good VPS, how drastic can the page load time improve without any optimization ? Am assuming that the website will be close to the users hence that might improve page load time. Is the assumption correct ? If yes by what magnitude ?
