Global setting to ignore inline math when computing leading

I'm writing a paper with a provided template and page limit, meaning I cannot change the leading. However, it really annoys me how often the leading between lines is different due to inline math:

I have been using \smash{...} everywhere, but I'd love a global setting such that whatever calculates the leading between lines ignores inline math. I'd rather have a few symbols clash and fix those than have the above happen all the time. Is this possible?
