Black screen after ubuntu update (probably)

I have an old machine that I use as a small node.js server, i had instaled ubuntu 18.04 on it and it worked fine for a couple of months. But today i noticed that the HDD activity LED was constanly on so i restarted the machine and when i turned it back on, went through grub (i have a dual boot system),the screen was black... I'm guessing the system updated because it was asking me from weeks, so i went on the formus and found the "nomodeset" fix, unfotunatly that doesn't work... i also removed "quiet" and "splash" to see the logs, but everything seems normal, it seems to go off at random point durning the end of the boot... maybe a driver issue? currently the machine has a "GeForce 6100 nForce 405" GPU (again, it's an old machine)... After that i tried to boot into the live USB and that worked! only issue is that it freezes after around a minute or two... no matter if the "nomodeset" flag is set or no... Any help is appriciated!

EDIT: After waiting around a bit the HDD activity light goes off.. and the mahine can be SSHd into! but still a black screen on the monitor... Any help is appriciated!
